The Remodel is Finally Finished
See the before and after pictures. I didn't think to take before pictures, but I'm thrilled with the end product. Various changes have happened since we first bought the house in 2003. Click on the thumbnails to see the larger picture.
The first picture is Heather and I outside the house in December 2003, right before we closed on the house.
Since that time, we have done quite a bit of remodeling. We pushed back bedroom doors to make the hallway big enough for turning. We modified the bathroom a bit to make it barely usable, and added a roll-in shower. We also added a ramp on the front, a deck on the back, widened the front door, and added french doors in the back.
In August 2005, we set out on a major remodeling project. We eliminated an exterior door, turned the hallway between the kitchen and bathroom into part of the bathroom, moved the laundry into the bathroom. We also had to replace the entire subfloor and some joists in the bathroom. We added a window, moved plumbing fixtures around, and added a pocket door for better accessibility.
The kitchen was a bit smaller of a project. We knocked out the laundry closet, lowered the sink and part of the counters, removed the range and replaced it with a cooktop and wall oven, and we rearranged the base cabinets. We also replaced the subfloor, fixed all the holes in the floor (no more mice in the house), and retiled the floor.
It took a long time, and only just now, in April 2006 did we finally finish. The contractors were done in September, but it was until December before the oven came in, and the mason was able to do the brick in-fill from the old door, January before the refrigerator arrived, and we didn't get to painting the brick until April 2006.
We can't forget the back. While we still need to do a lot of landscaping work, we love our great big deck, and hot tub too!
